The Possession analysis

Horror film "The possession" analysis

The possession is set in a modern American suburb and is based around a middle class family in which the two parents are separated. The film opens to a scene with relatively jolly music of which someone is attacked by a spirit to which helps to give a very disturbing feel to the opening. On the most party the film is done with a sleight grey tint making it seem a lot less happy, the fear factor comes from the fact the neighborhood and houses look so normal and yet something so sinister as a possession can happen there making the viewer feel as if they are part of the movie because of how easy it is to imagine ones self in the situation of the urban environmental.

The audience is made to seem worried from the way the child who is later to be possessed is so protective of the box and has sudden personality changes, (for example when she stabs her dads hand with a fork for telling her to eat slower) this makes the character seem unpredictable and violent coupled non-diagetic music build-ups to help emphasis this.

As often done with horror films the cast is on the most part unheard off which also helps the audience to picture themselves in the movie because of no famous actors being featured in which people would automatically assume with other roles which could completely ruin the mood of the film.#
